Advent Builds Energy Business

12 May 2014: LONDON – Lloyd’s insurer Advent has underlined its intention to enhance its specialist capabilities with the appointment of Robin Waller to lead the energy division. Waller joins from Liberty International’s Singapore office where he was responsible for energy and marine in Asia, and will report to Advent’s recently appointed chief underwriting officer (CUO) and active underwriter William Beveridge.

Advent’s energy team is well established and Waller will be working with Kevin Regan and Sam Hui to support existing operations and identify new opportunities for growth.

Beveridge said: “We continue to attract very high-quality people, which demonstrates our progress in building a successful business, focussed on specialty lines, with strong technical underwriting and market leading expertise.”

Waller added: “I am very excited to be joining Advent at such a progressive time and the quality of the overall team and the energy division leaves me in no doubt that we are set for sustainable growth and success.”

The energy news follows recent developments in the marine division. Advent’s marine and energy team has grown significantly in the past few months with the appointment of James Bavin as head, James Wilkie (marine liability), Simon Lovell (hull & machinery) and Gary Cooke (cargo).

Advent is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fairfax Financial Services Limited, a financial services holding company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, whose corporate objective is to achieve a high rate of return on invested capital and build long- term shareholder value. Through its subsidiaries, Fairfax engages in global property and casualty insurance and reinsurance and investment management. Advent underwrites through Syndicate 780 at Lloyd’s, which has been conducting business since 1974.
