The Advent Group has operated in the Lloyd's market for over 30 years and includes Advent Underwriting Limited, a Lloyd's managing agency, and the Advent Corporate Members, corporate Members of Lloyd's. Advent has also recently formed Advent Re to trade in the Bermuda international reinsurance market.

Advent Capital (Holdings) PLC was incorporated in 1995 to be the holding company of the Advent Group. The business managed by the Advent Group has operated in Lloyd's since Syndicate 780 commenced underwriting for the 1974 year of account. Advent Underwriting Limited was incorporated in 1975 to be the managing agent for the Syndicate and was acquired by the Advent Group in 1999.

Advent Capital Limited, one of the Advent Corporate Members, was incorporated in October 1993 and was amongst the first dedicated corporate capital investors to enter Lloyd's, commencing underwriting for the 1995 underwriting year of account.

Advent listed on AIM in June 2005 raising a total of £65 million and with a market capitalisation of £76.8m on entry.
Advent raised a further £45m of funds in January 2006.
Advent underwrites 84% of Syndicate 780's trading capacity for it's own shareholders account in 2007.
In December 2006 Advent announced the formation of Advent Re , a wholly owned subsidiary Bermuda based reinsurer to underwrite retrocessional reinsurance. At the same time Advent announced a further fundraising of £19m.
